Unfettered
6 x 20 x 23 inches, wool and silk yarns, cotton fabric, rigid foam, wire, mulberry paper, wood, air-dry clay, hardware, acrylic paint
This is the final sculpture in my series Eternal Vigilance. The trapped birds who did not recognize the danger of their confinement have made a courageous escape. After a period of bewilderment, they committed to the future and now fly free. Here the bird is fully formed with outstretched wings that shimmer in the light. Having shed all restrictions, she soars into the sky. Spreading her lacy golden wings, she lifts gracefully upward. Her feathers are the color of sunshine and fire. She is strong, daring, alive, and fearless.
This piece is part of my narrative series Eternal Vigilance. View and read about the series here.
